A Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Seeks to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

Marking the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop stocked with special items. Enthusiasts will find offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies all inspired by the institution's theme. The big draw, however, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. The store is scheduled both the physical location and online between late January and mid-April.

The Book Behind the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited tome filled with beautiful artwork depicting Pokémon in their natural habitats. The concept like the kind of research an in-world scientist might publish once trainers provide field notes, alternatively what Charles Darwin might have created had the Galapagos teemed with Pidgeys instead of finches. A key appeal stems from the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of scientific inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.

Why This Promo Card Different

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release cards celebrating major tournaments and brand collaborations. Many such promotional cards typically highlight the famous electric rodent who serves as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger dimensions. While exact measurements have not been publicly disclosed, its distribution is guaranteed to be highly restricted, and fans limited to only a single card with each transaction.

Limiting Reseller Interest

Per a company announcement, a portion of the pop-up items will also be sold beyond the museum walls. But, a wider release is slated for select retailers within the United Kingdom. Critically, collectors will not be able to acquire this promo via the official web shop. Although speculator demand is a given, it appears they will have a difficult time hoarding mass quantities this time around. For those unable to attend, there is the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to the Windy City in the coming months.

"All profits of sales from the Museum shop and from its web shop, which covers Pokémon products, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the research of 400 scientists who are conducting studies and finding solutions to the global ecological crisis," it says.
