Antony Price, Famed for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
