Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
