President Trump Calls Relatives of Shot National Guard Members to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president informed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Community members gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the individual that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.”
Service plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to visit the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
