The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
